The annual carnival in Ensenada took place for a week
beginning February 6th. Will and I did not quite understand what
Carnival (Car-NEE-val) meant to Ensenada.
It is a SERIOUS celebration. It
is 6 days and begins on Thursday and ends on Fat Tuesday. It is a celebration of Mardi Gras…a celebration
prior to the catholic lint. People come from miles away and are literally
partying until 3 AM or better and the live music is going until 2 AM with the
main street of Ensenada closed off.
There are 3 parades that take place. The first parade was on Saturday, the second
on Sunday and the final parade on Fat Tuesday.
The floats consisted of mostly children dressed up in costumes. The majority
of the costumes were a lot of Mexican dresses with lots of vibrant colors. The
children tossed multi colored confetti into the crowds. On the last day of the
parade there were several car collectors driving their cars through the crowds
following the parade.
We found a restaurant on top of a hotel overlooking the
carnival and the marina. Yep, we were
out with Al and Kathy again….I think only one of those beers was mine.
The question is where is Will….notice the next photo….this is
the name plate on the glass of this restaurant which is on the 10th
floor…Will was taking the photos. He captured the name plate overlooking the
view. Postcard quality huh? He did an
awesome job!
Will and I did FINALLY have our boat put on the container
ship and unfortunately forgot our camera
download and charger on the boat. We
were picked up on Wednesday the 13th after 3 weeks in Ensenada. We arrived on January 24th and
thought we were scheduled for February 3rd. We will update this blog with some photos of
the ship etc. Meanwhile we wait for our
ship to come in (ONCE MORE) to Ft. Lauderdale on approximately February 28th. Thanks everyone for your interest!
Laters!!!
